Frequently asked questions
Where can I see your furniture in person?
We don’t currently work with any showrooms, but instead aim to present our work faithfully on this website. If you have any questions at all please don’t hesitate to contact us.
Can I see it before its made?
Yes, we will apply your specifications to our 3D models and present some images of your piece reflecting their specific materials and proportions. This way you’ll know exactly what it will look like and we can make any changes from there. It’s just part of the process to get each piece perfectly tailored to your needs. We will do this with you before any payment is made.
Where can you ship to?
We can ship furniture just about anywhere. Within the continental United States we will ship furniture padded and then blanket wrapped. Shipping overseas will require crating.
Can I come to your WORKSHOP to discuss a piece of furniture?
Yes, if you are in the New York City area you are more than welcome to come by see what were making, view samples and discuss your project. It is often a fun and quick way to get a project off the ground. We are located on the waterfront in Red Hook Brooklyn. 175 Van Dyke Street #325B, Brooklyn, NY 11231. Please contact us to schedule a visit.
Do you have samples?
Yes, we can ship samples on loan for your consideration. We just ask that they be returned once you are done with them. We craft our samples to the same high standards as our furniture so they can begin to tell the story of what we do. For more immediate satisfaction we have photographed many of our samples and provided some helpful information on our Materials page.
Do you offer a discount to the trade?
Yes, we offer a 15% discount to trade customers. Trade customers are required to provide a valid state resale certificate.
Do you stock any of your furniture?
Generally, no. All of our furniture is made to order. This allows us to tailor each piece to a customer's needs. Occasionally we will have a few prototypes available for sale at a discounted price. The best thing to do would be to inquire with us directly to see what we might have available.
How do I place an order for tailored furniture?
Use our general Contact page, Tailor Made page or call us directly at (646) 249-8900. We will need to know what item(s) you’re interested in, estimated dimensions and desired materials so we can price it for you. We are also here to help you with these decisions if you like. Once all aspects of the project are agreed upon we will require a fabrication deposit in the amount of 50% of the project total to begin. The remaining 50% will be due just before shipping.
I don’t see what i need exactly, can you create something new?
Everything we create is custom. Our website aims to present a broad vision of what we do in a simple and clean manner. This does mean that some variations to our own designs may not be pictured but we would love to create them for you. Tailoring is part of our natural process so please contact us with your ideas or needs and we will work with you to make it a reality. Additionally we can take your needs and design an entirely new piece for you, though this will take more time to develop.
Can you make something from a photo?
No, we only produce our own designs and can not recreate an existing piece designed by someone else. However we can take your inspiration and design something completely new, though this will take more time to develop.
Do you make built in versions of your furniture?
No we only make freestanding solid wood furniture. While we tailor each piece to fit your needs we can not provide furniture that needs be installed into existing architecture. If you have a particular nook you would like to fit one of our tailored pieces we recommend leaving a few inches at minimum to allow it to fit without being too tight physically or aesthetically.
What are your lead times?
Generally 12 weeks. This is dependent on our current workflow. Crafting furniture one at a time can create amazing results but is a lengthly process. We are often dependent on outside vendors for certain parts or materials which can extend lead times out of our control. We do our best to schedule within this 12 week window but are not obligated by it. Occasionally we may need to take extra time to maintain our high standards.
Please Note: Supply chain issues related to COVID have severely messed with our ability to maintain normal lead-times and seem to pop up haphazardly. We will do everything we can to maintain lead-times but please understand that forces entirely out of our control have led to various delays in our lead times over the past year.
Can you ACCOMMODATE rush orders?
We can accommodate rush orders. This generally means working overtime or hiring extra people so an up-charge will apply. Rush orders will generally cut lead times in half but we can not be held precisely to a completion date. Though we will do everything we can to meet your deadline we must also maintain our high standards of craftsmanship.
How do I care for my furniture?
Our Furniture Care page will help you understand how to care for our furniture.
Can you refinish the furniture i bought from you?
Yes we can. The fee will be determined by the piece and it will have to be shipped back and forth at the customers expense. Where possible it will be recommended to refinish only prominent surfaces/areas. If a piece is to be fully refinished the price can be upwards of 30% of the purchase price. This will include completely re-sanding and finishing in its entirety. Some surface damage and regular wear and tear can be addressed at home and is described on our Furniture Care page.
I broke something! Can you help?
In the event that something goes horribly wrong, we will try to help you resolve the problem. In many cases the furniture will have to be shipped back and forth to our workshop for repair at the customers expense. The cost of the repair can be estimated with photos but will be adjusted to reflect actual time and materials once the repair is complete. Please note some things can not be fixed but must be replaced entirely and can result in extensive work. This is especially true for cabinet doors - if one door is damaged it is likely that all doors would have to be replaced as color and grain will not match.
Can I return a piece of furniture?
No sorry we don’t accept returns of any kind as everything is made to our clients specifications.
How do I cancel an order?
If for some reason you change your mind and would like to cancel an order while in production we will assess the costs already incurred and return the remaining funds if any. All materials including lumber are sourced and purchased specifically for your piece and are not returnable. Unfortunately in many cases this means much of the fabrication deposit will be forfeited. Please try to make sure this does not happen. It’s not fun for anybody.
