Bright White Lacquer

Lacquer has been used as a furniture finish for centuries, with its origins tracing back to ancient China and Japan. As early as 3,000 BCE, artisans in East Asia developed techniques to extract and refine sap from the lacquer tree (Toxicodendron vernicifluum), creating a durable, glossy coating for wood, pottery, and decorative objects. By the 17th century, European craftsmen sought to replicate the luxurious Asian finishes, leading to the development of “Japanning,” a European imitation of traditional lacquerwork. In the 20th century, synthetic lacquers transformed furniture finishing with fast-drying, durable, pigmented, soft feel coatings.

Lacquer lends an excellent crisp clean look to many of our designs. Lacquers are particularly nice when pairing and contrasting with various textured wood species. Our lacquers are available in an almost limitless array of colors and are created with Benjamin Moore color formulas. To create a custom color, go to your local Benjamin Moore paint shop and pick out some color samples and we can match them in lacquer.
